Big cat in Nairobi
This is now my third trip to Nairobi. I’m here two days just to have my Southern Sudan visa processed. I apply the first morning, and pick it up late on second afternoon. That leaves time for some desk work, trying to get over jet lag and 30 hours in transit, and some sightseeing. This trip, it was the Nairobi Safari Walk, on the edge of Nairobi National Park.
So, I’m walking around the self-guided path past a number of exhibits and come across the cheetah enclosure. The lone cheetah is laying there, flicking its tail, keenly watching some impala a few yards away on the other side of a fence. One of the staff starts chatting to me, then asks if I’d like to pet the big cat. Not stopping to think if my travel insurance covers mauling through stupidity, I say “sure!” Beautiful animal, with a loud purr. Highlight of day. Oh, and I did get my visa at the end of the day.
