The passing of a friend...

Sieglinde and I never had children together, so the "son we never had" was our great friend Balloo.
When we found him at the SPCA, he was a little eight pound bundle of black fur and he looked like a bear cub. So, we named him after Balloo the bear in Kipling's Jungle Book. For thirteen years, he gave us countless hours of joy and unconditional love. He had as great a life as a dog can have, made friends with everyone he met, and left us suddenly two weeks ago.
He is missed by all who knew him.

From his pictures, a quiet nobility persists. I know your loss, but sharing pain rarely makes it hurt less. Some want the pain to go away, others desire its ability to remind us of how deeply we cared.
Good dog, Balloo, Good Dog.
Well I am crying as I write this, and I am sure you shed many a tear yourself.I only met Balloo once - at your lovely summer party - and admired how he connected to everyone and how he was so admired by the shee shee poodle who was there preening for his attentions!
I remember your story of dressing him every Hallow'een but that he did not "like hats." I am very sorry to hear of his passing.
